Language is important and German can sometimes be difficult for both children and adults. Just think about what it's like for our children when they have to learn things like spelling and grammar for the first time.
Children understand a lot very early on, even if they can't speak yet. In my tutoring, I help children from grades 1 to 5 learn German in a fun and playful way. I believe that a good teacher can have a big impact on a child's learning progress and that's why I adapt the learning material to each child individually. ( higher levels upon request )

We learn together many different things like grammar, spelling, reading, writing, vocabulary, and we also read and analyze texts together.

What Do We Look at in German Class:
German Grade 1
Course Content and Objectives
In Grade 1 German course, your child will learn all uppercase and lowercase letters in print handwriting. They will write and read the first words and short sentences. They will be introduced to basic spelling rules such as punctuation and capitalization in a gentle manner. Your child will practice reading age-appropriate texts for comprehension. Additionally, they will learn to express their experiences coherently and transcribe them into short, simple sentences. By the end of the course, your child will be able to read a children's book and answer simple questions about it.
In Grade 1, the focus is on promoting your child's language expression skills and their ability to translate spoken language into written form. The primary goal is for the child to practice associating each audible sound with the corresponding letter.
German Basic Grade 2
Course Content and Objectives
In the German Basic Grade 2 course, your child will be introduced to systematic work on words and sentences. They will practice various spelling strategies and learn about word formation. In Grade 2, your child will further develop their language expression skills. Additionally, they will increasingly be able to use different working techniques. The primary goal is for them to write fluently and confidently.
German Basic Class 3
Course Contents and Goals
The German Basic Class 3 course continues the systematic work on words and sentences. At this grade level, first Latin technical terms are introduced. Your child will learn spelling rules and deepen their knowledge of word formation. They compare German words with other languages and discover similarities and differences. In Class 3, your child further develops their sense of language and deals more consciously with language. In the area of spelling, one goal is for the child to consciously apply learned strategies.
German Grade 4
Course Content and Objectives
In the German Grade 4 course, your child will learn to follow basic spelling rules and observe initial punctuation rules. They will also acquire extensive knowledge about the structure of language. They will practice formulating their own expressions appropriately considering the listener/reader and the situation. Through reading and extensively working with a children's book, your child will be encouraged in their interaction with literature. They will learn different criteria for text composition and apply them in their own writing.
By the end of Grade 4, your child will possess a solid vocabulary within their own realm of experience, including correct spelling. They will have acquired a foundational understanding of grammatical structures and various methods for analyzing language. Your child will approach speaking and reading consciously. They will independently plan, write, and revise texts.
German Class 5
Course Contents and Goals
In the German Class 5 course, your child deepens and expands the basic rules of spelling and punctuation. Furthermore, they explore the structure of language as well as language usage. They practice formulating their own expressions appropriately with respect to the listener/reader and situation. Your child practices presenting and reading aloud with emphasis on meaning. Using various texts, they engage with different forms of literature. Moreover, your child trains to construct narrative texts and factual texts logically.
By the end of Class 5, your child should have an extensive vocabulary and be able to express themselves appropriately according to the situation. Another goal of Class 5 is for your child to increasingly know linguistic structures and terms. Your child should recognize features of different text types and engage more systematically with literature. They increasingly design their own texts more securely according to the learned guidelines.
