Well you should know that for a long time money and advancement opportunities were enough of a motivation for many workers. Additionally supported by status symbols such as a company car, annual bonus payments or a personal invitation from the boss to a posh restaurant. As a result, most of them have not even thought about questioning the resulting overtime, hierarchies or even yelling at the overwhelmed boss. One thought only by playing along with his game would I get to a different, possibly even higher position.
If this sounds familiar to you, now is the time to change something and read the text carefully. By that I don't just mean reading, but also internalizing it.
Why am I saying this to you, you should know that the new generation of employees has changed and that their expectations of a company and its management have also changed.
You should embody the following values as a boss today: openness, honesty, transparency and trust.
Because the new generation has decided that if employers assume that they also have to work in the evenings or at weekends, then it only makes sense to get something in return. But be careful, they don't mean a bonus like a company car, promotions and hierarchies. You want a good work-life balance, which could be flexitime, part-time, parental leave, the opportunity for self-realization and relaxation options.
What makes a good boss nowadays:
Be honestly interested in the opinions of your employees. Why am I telling you this, you might be surprised, many of them already have a very good solution for your business needs.
Give your employees some freedom, let them have a say in certain day-to-day routine tasks. This can speed up processes and make them feel that you trust them. This in turn triggers enormous self-motivation, which increases work capacity.
Create the opportunity for them to organize their working hours as flexibly as is possible in your industry. Because not every employee works the same way, some are more efficient in the morning and others in the afternoon or evening.
Please attach importance to proper training opportunities tailored to the employee. You will see that the newly acquired knowledge will be used even better in your company.
